"Hurts So Good"

Mr. Mellencamp's lyric came to mind when I received a recent rejection.
Thank you for sending your work to Prestigious Literary Magazine. After careful deliberation, we have decided not to accept it for publication, though we wanted to let you know that we read it with more than the casual amount of interest, that your work in some way caught our eye. We hope that you will send more work our way in the future. We held onto this for entirely too long, but we liked it quite a bit. Very moving. I went back and forth over whether to take it for quite a while, obviously, but you were on my mind -- not forgotten.
Such is the writer's -- poseur's? -- life.

You're no poseur, Gary. I get I can guess the name of the journal, but I won't do that here. Keep trying.

That must have been very gratifying--the thoughtfulness with which they considered your work and replied. You already know your work is good, solid, and relevant--I'm sure. Still, it means a lot to have an editor respond it that way, doesn't it? Here's hoping more good things are in store for you, Dear, in writing and in life.
