Our fantasy is that until the industrial era domesticated animals were treated decently. Maybe that’s true, and maybe it isn’t; but certainly they weren’t turned out by the tens of thousands as if they were widgets.After reading the piece and the cheerleading comments, I left my own comment.
People commenting positively on Bittman's piece should be required to note whether they eat meat, and if so, its source. As for me, I don't eat meat. But like everyone in the USA I share guilt for the ugly process of corporate farming. To me, there is more to admire in a person who hunts or fishes to put meat on the table.
