It's a Strange Place, Book World

In an effort to mention in every possible venue -- "Hey, look at me! I'm a published author!" -- I told people on an auto racing discussion list that Seven Wheelchairs: A Life beyond Polio had hit the book stores.

A fellow auto racing enthusiast in Canada bought the book. I asked "Would you like a signed bookplate?"

"I thought you signed all the books."

"No," I replied. "Why?"

"My copy is signed."

"Where did you buy it?" I asked.

"Amazon Canada."

I had signed twenty or so copies while at the The University of Iowa Press and at Prairie Lights. I told the man what my signature looks like. He responded by sending me a digital scan of the signature.

It's mine.

... which no doubt means the remainders at Prairie Lights were recycled to our friends in the Great White North.

I'm not so sure I like the idea of remainders, but Alain is happy. "Great," he said. "I have a special edition."
